IMLS Competitive Grant

The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation's 122,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The Joeten-Kiyu Public Library was designated the "Commonwealth Library," the state library agency. in 1992 and in the following years became eligible to receive the IMLS Five Year and Competitive grants.

The Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas libraries has benefited greatly from IMLS programs. IMLS funding has been used to automate the Joeten-Kiyu Public library and local public school libraries, create an Information Technology Center with public access to computers and the Internet, and other outreach programs to the elderly and local schools.
